Game on (again)

Diving back into the world of blogging. I have had many false starts at getting my words onto the screen (Eco-Mamas and Papas and The Hidden Peace to name a couple) and very rarely have I been able to maintain the commitment to keep it going. But I have so many thoughts and ideas swimming around my head, I just can't resist coming back for one more try.

My goal in my writing and use of this space is very much the same as it was in my last attempt to blog (found at our website here) and worth repeating. So to start off, I leave you with this. One year and one kid later, and plus or minus some goats and chickens and still the sentiment remains.

GAME ON
March 1, 2015 ·

Almost five years ago, Rob and I moved out of the city and into a rural area with two small kids and one on board.

We now have four kids and one  on the way, seven goats, a whole lot of chickens, two ducks, a veggie garden, a medicinal herb garden and a whole lot of hope.

We are living with the awareness that the climate of our planet is changing, and changing faster and more profoundly than ever before. Faced with this awareness, and refusing to be crippled by what can seem overwhelming, daunting and even inevitable, we must be a people of hope.

What will you find here? Our family’s journey – our story – of life on a rural homestead. Life with a lot of kids. Life with a lot of homeschooled kids. A story of learning to live with less dependency on fossil fuels in an economy and infrastructure designed by fossil fuels. A story that is not just about us. A story that acknowledges inter-connectedness. It is not about cutting off from the world but deeply engaging with and working to change a system that is broken. A system that is disconnected. A system that recognizes profit before people and the planet.

And right off the bat, let’s be clear that there are many ways, many places, many expressions of living a sustainable life. This is one way. We learn, make mistakes, learn from our mistakes, share our story, listen to the stories of others, and continue on the path of striving. Perhaps you will find some ideas that inspire you to act or grow or think differently about how to keep our planet strong. And hopefully you will share and comment on what has worked for you. We must learn from each other. This is not a left/right blog. I would hope by now we all agree that keeping this earth healthy is not limited to a certain political party or platform or ideology. While politics may be involved, it will be regarding changing or strengthening or creating policies that protect the planet and the rocks, soil, water, air, plants and creatures on it. Not about finger pointing and blame but about action.

We can not afford the time to pontificate about what is happening. We know. And the time to act is now.
